Mmm Geek Sweets

I know, there’s been a distinct lack of updates yet again, but I’ve been busy working so I can afford to blow my money on random, geeky things like this – Sour Apple sweets, shaped like 1-up Mushrooms inside a 1-up Mushroom tin. Available for a rather extortionate £2.99 from Borders and not even discounted after Borders having gone into administration. Ugh.

Still, I just wanted the tin and I hadn’t seen these available elsewhere. I know HMV sell videogame sweets in the shape of Pac-Man and Ghosts, NES controllers and Mario Super Stars, but never encountered these ‘shrooms. These are also available in Blue and Red forms, the colour deciding the flavour of sweets you’ll find inside; the red mushrooms were Cherry flavour and the blue ones were, er, blue flavour. The 1-up ‘shroom I got was sour apple, and reviewing those – they’re not really that sour but still not too bad. But hey, I bought it for the tin, which I’ll use as a desk ornament, or to hide some loose change. That is after I’ve consumed all the sweets inside. Om nom nom.

Wii Balance Board For More Than Just Exercise

Wii balance board

Supposedly Homeland Security are testing out the Wii Balance Board as a means to screen potential filthy terrorists at airports. Somehow the balance board will be able to detect fidgety or nervous passengers who might be hiding weapons or explosives. How the Wii Balance Board will perform when subjects just really need the toilet has not yet been revealed.

Nintendo DSi prints money in different colours

nintendo-dsi-2Even though every single person on the planet likely already owns a DS or twenty, Nintendo are looking to add a few more hues into the mix. October 23rd sees the release of 3 new colours; Metallic Blue, Light Blue and Red. Nintendo’s creative team clearly ran out of ideas on that last one. I’ll unofficially dub it ‘Blood of Our Competitors Red’.

These new DSis will also come with Facebook and Flipnote Studio pre-installed, which is useful for the ‘socially’ OCD of you. The latter is certainly more interesting for the creative types, allowing for note taking and creating custom animations and ‘mini-movies’, limited only by your imagination and dementedness.

On top of all that, if you connect to the Nintendo Wifi Connection with your brand spanking new DSi before March 31st 2010, you’ll get 1,000 free Nintendo Points to spend how you see fit.
