My first photo update, but being that this blog was started on a whim I have nothing actually new to contribute. At least this is one of my more recent photos. This blog should give me the opportunity to actually say something about photos I take, rather than merely upload them will-nilly with little to no accountability as to why the photograph was taken. So henceforth I shall try and give a little reasoning and background to certain photos I take. Of course I’ll probably still shoot machine-gun style, but amongst that multiple-gigabyte batch of photos there’ll be at least one photo with some thought behind it.
I’m endeavouring to visualise photos in black and white before even approaching the shutter button, an extension of that whole accountability approach I was waffling about earlier. I’ve always held an appreciation of black and white film photography, but an appreciation I’ve not really been able to emulate since shooting with a digital SLR. There’s something ‘organic’ about black and white film that has definitely been lacking in my previous attempts. Though this could be largely attributed to my post-processing skills, or distinct lack thereof. Still, I’m relatively happy with the tonality and I paid specific attention to the lines of the image and how they begin to converge at the top of the frame, hopefully drawing your eye inwards and upwards from the corners.
Now let’s see if I can keep this updated on a regular basis.
